Our Programs
Our programmes blend education, grassroots advocacy and creativity to empower individuals, save lives, and build a future full of sickle-cell-free generations.
World Sickle Cell Day (WSCD)
Every June 19th, the Anisa Sickle Cell Foundation (ASCF) joins the global movement to combat sickle cell disease (SCD) with action, not just awareness. On university campuses across Nigeria, we host dynamic seminars and survivor-led storytelling sessions, paired with free genotype screenings for undergraduates of reproductive age to spotlight the urgency of nationwide sickle cell trait education, universal newborn screening, premarital genetic counseling and early intervention to reduce the great burden of sickle cell disease in Nigeria.

Our WSCD flagship event “Breaking The Sickle Cell Cycle 1.0”:
In collaboration with the Cell Biology and Genetics Students’ Association (CBGSA), University of Lagos, we pioneered the university’s first-ever WSCD event, offering 100 free genotype screenings and genetic counseling sessions to students.
This initiative:
- Educated undergraduates on the inheritance pattern of sickle cell disease, it’s psychological effect, management, and the need for genotype compatibility.
- Connected participants with genetic counselors to navigate reproductive choices.
- Gave hope to students, relatives and caregivers with sickle cell disease.
Help us dismantle myths, amplify survivor voices, and break the sickle cell cycle, one student, one family, one generation, one community at at a time.
