I AM SICKLE CELL SMART (IASCS)
“Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want” Ken Poirot
With no universal newborn screening policy, millions of adolescents discover their sickle cell trait only after becoming parents to a child with sickle cell disease (SCD). This preventable cycle fuels Nigeria’s status as the global epicentre of sickle cell disease with 150,000+ annual births. These young generations are the catalyst in reducing the prevalence of sickle cell disease in Nigeria.
Through I AM SICKLE CELL SMART, we’re revolutionising sickle cell awareness. By 2030, we aim to have engaged 10,000+ public secondary students across the 20 local government areas (LGAs) in interactive sensitization sessions featuring mass genotype screenings, sickle cell crisis first aid and peer-led advocacy training. Together, we’re raising an inclusive generation that sees strength, not stigma.
At Anisa Sickle Cell Foundation, we don’t just dream of a better tomorrow—we design it.
